Bio

Johann Fritsche is a virtuous pianist and composer born in Halle Saale, Germany. He started his journey with piano already at the age of 5 at the Conservatory Georg Friedrich Händel. There he was trained in classical piano for more than 10 years. Johann discovered jazz piano later on and he won numerous prices e.g. at the competitions Jugend Musiziert and Jugend Jazzed. In addition he toured with his first band „Halle Percussion Ensemble“ in Europe and Asia. 

At the age of 19 Johann begun his bachelor studies in piano at the Hochschule for Musik und Theater „Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy“ in Leipzig. During his bachelor studies Johann studied classical and jazz piano with the professors Richie Beirach and Michael Wollny and attended master classes e.g. by John Hollenbeck, Ian Iversson and Anto Pett. In addition Johann co-operated with different artists e.g. from the theater and art field.

In 2020 Johann begun his master studies in piano in Nordic Master Jazz program at Sibelius Academy in Helsinki. After Helsinki Johann continued the master’s studies at the Royal Academy of Music in Aarhus and finally at Kungliga Musik Högskolan in Stockholm from where he graduated in 2022. The Nordic Master Jazz program allowed Johann to study with the pianists Aki Rissanen, Adam Forkelid and Sören Norbo. He performed across the Nordics and started new projects wit Scandinavian artists. 

In 2019 Johann published a solo EP with free improvisations on his own compositions. Johann has also received grants e.g from Musikfonds Deutschland and GEMA to support his artistic projects. Further Johann has worked on various cross genre projects together with many artists and toured internationally along his studies. For example he has played on two psychedelicrock albums of the band “Welcome Inside The Brain”. 

Currently Johann lives and works as a freelancing artist in Stockholm. His music and projects reflect on his international background in classical music and combine different musical genres and improvised music in a sophisticated and playful way. Johann looks forward to publishing new music in 2023.
